By Jim BacklinNote what I wrote to my email list, as a Vietnam veteran, about what the left-wing John Kerry and his fellow 7,000 or so left-wing Vietnam veterans did to undermine those of us left fighting in Vietnam while he ranted against the war. Meanwhile, the millions of us Vietnam veterans who came home from the war and supported the war effort got almost no publicity compared to this Hanoi Jane Fonda supporter: John Kerry. FYI, note letter to editor about John Kerry from the wife of soldier missing in action in Vietnam. Her main complaint: "Do we want a president that changes his mind and then would abandon his troops?" Along this line questioning John Kerry's character, Kerry after he returned from the Vietnam War, cavorted with the radical anti-Vietnam war "Hanoi Jane" Fonda who most Vietnam veterans consider a traitor. She is a traitor for her reprehensible anti-American and anti-Vietnam actions against American soldiers -- such as pretending to shoot down American pilots with an anti-aircraft weapon alongside North Vietnamese communists in our enemy's capital, Hanoi, North Vietnam. John Kerry ranted against us Vietnam veterans left behind in Vietnam calling us butchers and accusing us of killing innocent women and children according to news reports. He threw away "his" Vietnam ribbons during a U.S. Capitol Building anti-war demonstration, which turned out to be the Vietnam ribbons earned by someone else. Yes, he was a hero before he returned home from Vietnam. But he was close to traitor Jane Fonda after the war. There was not much difference in their anti-Vietnam War activities. Bring him on! Jim Backlin P.S. By the way, there were millions of us Vietnam veterans who came back from Vietnam and who supported our brothers left in Vietnam and who did not demonstrate against the war. On the other hand there were less than 7,000 left-wing Vietnam veterans - including John Kerry -- who participated in these anti-American anti-war, Hanoi Jane Fonda-affiliated activities demoralizing the troops still over in Vietnam. A hero after the war?? Hardly!! Has anyone heard of a Vietnam Veterans Against John Kerry group yet? John Forbes Kerry presidential material? Do we want John Forbes Kerry for our President? If Senator Kerry can't answer questions put to him concerning his stand on Vietnam why would we want him for our President? As President will he send troops into harms way, then change his mind and abandon them? Senator Kerry had an opportunity to show great character when he chaired the Senate Select Committee on POW/MIA affairs. At the beginning of the hearings Kerry promised the POW/MIA families and the American public to get the truth about the men left behind in captivity. But mid-stream in the hearings Kerry changed from getting the truth to "scripting" and manipulating the testimony of government witnesses. There was testimony before the SSC by three former Secretaries of Defense that men were left behind. Instead of doing the honest investigation and letting the chips fall where they may, he took the easy way out and chose to ignore the evidence. (Stmt of John Kerry: Although the Committee, unlike previous investigation, uncovered evidence that a small number of American's may have survived in captivity after Operation Homecoming, there is, in my view, no reason to believe that any American's remain alive today. Yes, the possibility exists that a prisoner or prisoners could be held deep within a jungle or behind a locked door under conditions of greatest security. But there is no evidence of that, and it is hard to conceive the reason for it, pg. 451). Kerry shut down the committee without fulfilling its objective. Is this the kind of man you want for your President one who does not fulfill his commitments? Kerry promised the investigation of the men left behind would continue after the end of SSC that did not happen--another promise not fulfilled. Senator Kerry has also frequently claimed he had all POW/MIA documentation declassified. That is not true. Although he had the investigative files sent to the National Archives it took researchers five years to have the Department of Defense and State Department documents reviewed for declassification because Kerry would not assist to have the documents declassified as promised-another promise not fulfilled. Researchers were told the Senate Select Committee had ended and they should contact the Department of Defense. It took another year to get the 40,000 pages of classified CIA documents declassified. (Check with Dr. Michael Kurtz, Asst. Archivist, National Archives and Records Administration, Washington, DC) I support the "Come back Kerry?" (Washington Times-pg A-18 Jan 27-04) call for an investigative reporter to find Kerry's book but then take if further, do the investigation into Kerry's voting record. Look into the Colliers International and their business in Vietnam prior to normalization. Did Kerry have a conflict of interest by chairing a committee investigating our men that were left behind in communist hands at the end of the Vietnam War? Was Kerry more interested in getting his family into Vietnam to do business than getting our abandoned men home? If Kerry were to become President will he send our young men into war then abandon them? Has Kerry's past actions shown support of our troops? It should be the job of mainstream media to educate the public to the views of candidates for our highest office, that of President. We should know the character of the candidates so we as a voting public can make educated decisions as to who should lead our country. We need to have confidence in their capabilities to make decisions concerning our troops, if they are to be sent into harms way. Do we want a president that changes his mind and then would abandons his troops? The President is Commander in Chief of all forces can John Forbes Kerry fill that job description?
