Ronald Reagan

It's not a club, it's a mindset.

When the announcement came across the wires that Patricia Ireland, the grand dame of feminism, had accepted the top slot at the YWCA, many of us scratched our heads in bewilderment. Isn’t the YWCA the Young Women’s CHRISTIAN Association? Given her vehemence against believers, one would naturally assume that this would be an oil and water combination. Or at the very least she would spontaneously combust at even the mere thought of joining a so-called "Christian" organization.

Oh sure, the YWCA had played the game a bit in the Title IX fights a few years ago. That would sort of be expected. Thanks to organizations like the YMCA, the health and fitness reputation had bled over into the YWCA realm and a minimum level of activism on women’s sports issues was to be expected. Even if it is feminist inspired junk.

But Pat Ireland joining the ranks of the YWCA puts a whole new light on the subject.

Go to the YWCA website sometime. Have a case of Maalox on hand when you do so. Try to find a mention of God, the Bible or Jesus on that webpage in any part of their mission. It would be difficult to find such a mention in the sea of liberal garbage and buzzwords that permeate that webpage. In fact, it would be difficult to tell the difference between the website for the National Organization for Women and the YWCA.

Some of the more disturbing links include press releases calling for "tolerance" after September 11th, a call to anti-war activism, and a "Global Tolerance Award" from the "Friends of the United Nations." Jaw-droppingly liberal stuff.

They proudly take very extreme pro-abortion positions - to include a position against any kind of parental consent -- and offer sex education program materials. This very well might be one of the only organizations on the planet Earth with the word "Christian" in its name that does not promote abstinence until marriage.

By the way, this is something I have never understood about feminism. Why, if their mission in life is to "empower women," have they never emphasized that the real power lies in saying "no" to pre-marital sexual encounters? Biology does not recognize equality as a factor in a sexual relationship. Women suffer the consequences of promiscuity to include dealing with pregnancy. Women wouldn’t have to deal with the problem if they said ’no."

It’s quite simple, really. It seems to me that the sexual revolution only benefited only one group in our species - men who are looking for sexual encounters without responsibility or accountability. Here’s a hint, gals -- Say "no" and you won’t have to get to the consequence phase. Or wonder when he is going to call. Or wonder why he hasn’t popped the question. Or break out into a cold sweat when the little blue + sign shows up on the pregnancy test. Or wonder what the heck that rash is….

But I digress. In case you think the YWCA is an organization that remains under the radar merrily teaching swimming lessons and CPR to young tots across the nation, you haven’t gone to the website. According to the website, there are chapters all over the country and in 100 nations around the world. I can just see the YWCA in places like Afghanistan. From burkas to condoms in one fell swoop. This is nothing less than Feminist Indoctrination Central and should cause tremendous concern.

And just in case the indoctrination into liberalism doesn’t start early enough for you in this country, the YWCA has extensive child care facilities across the United States. Because kindergarten is just not early enough anymore for little girls to start blaming inequality of fingerpaint distribution on male-dominated hegemony that radiates from little boys, right?

If this sort of thing isn’t a wake-up call for you, it should be. As the mother of two sons, I am deeply concerned about the indoctrination of feminist theology in young women today. My boys will have to be twice the gentlemen to deal with the mini-feminists out to prove equality between the bedsheets. It is truly horrifying to contemplate about what our world might be like in a scant decade if organizations like the YWCA go unchallenged.

Particularly disturbing about all of this is the "Christian" label. This is clearly a case of "buyer beware." Not everything labeled "Christian" even comes close.

Who knew?
