Family time...gasp!

Posted on: Sunday, November 22nd, 2009 by Marianne Clyde

Yearly family football competition! Matching, reversable jerseys; cooking together; inviting the in-laws. Can you think of any situation with more potential for disaster?! Well, I have this friend, who not only does all this at Thanksgiving, but loves it. Her kids love it and her grandchildren love it. They actually even look forward, to it.

How can this be, when so many view the approaching of the holidays with a variety of emotions....often, the least of which is eager anticipation!?

I had asked my friend about how everyone gets along. She said, very matter of factly, "Of course situations come up, but we just 'suck it up'." She did not paint a picture of perpetual bliss, but in my mind, I conjured up a scene from Chevy Chase's movie "Funny Farm" in which they enlist the whole town to help them with propaganda to help sell the farm, making it look like the perfect place.

Another friend, has two aging, ailing mothers. Since they also live internationally, it is difficult to always be present when a need arises to get back to the states to help their moms. One of their sons called to say, "Why don't you move...

Ripples

Posted on: Thursday, March 19th, 2009 by Marianne Clyde

Leaving an impression. It’s something we do every day, every moment, but are often unaware of the impact we make.

The other day, I sat down on the dock of our pond and slowly dangled my feet in the water. I watched the ripples vibrate out to the edges of a pond….I did not even try to make a ripple, it just happened. Just so, everything we do in this world has a ripple—a far more reaching ripple than you might expect. No wonder the fish know when I am coming, they feel it in the water. They expect to be fed….too bad they don’t know that I am just fattening up for when we are going to eat them…hmm…..ripples.

After just getting off the elevator, my husband commented about someone who was just in there. No she wasn’t in there any more, but he could tell she had been and she left a favorable impression! He came home to tell me how good she smelled (brave boy). She smelled like strawberry shower gel….ok—so I need to run out and buy some strawberry shower gel….hmmm….ripples.

I read in my bible from the book of Matthew, Chapter 26,...

Come Together During this 6th Anniversary of 911

Posted on: Monday, September 10th, 2007 by RWNetwork Administrator

Allow me toemphasize how important it is that we come together as a family ofAmericans, as we approach the 6th anniversary of Sept.11th. I truly believe we must open ourselves up to the direction and love of God, then we will find each other. Too often, we are pulled in all sorts of directions and don't know which way to go. Life can be confusing and chaotic. It seems like so much overtakes us. But we all have help. It's in our Lord Jesus Christ. When we as Americans let situations pull usevery which way, we lose contact with those around us who can be a blessing. We lose contact with what's important and we lose sight on where God wants to take us.When we allow God to lead us, we find such wonderful surprises and love we didn't expect. Let me use one example, an experience that I've had recently. The topic...Sunday morning church services. Here'sa little background on my life. Igrew up as a military brat.Traveling from state to state, my family never settled on a church family, i.e., never joined a church due to the constant relocating. I have attended all sorts of churches, different denominations in my life. As...

€Whatever€ť Christianity (Part 1)

Posted on: Tuesday, November 14th, 2006 by Marsha West

“Any of it [teaching] that is good is in the Word of God, and any that is not in the Word of God is not good. I am a Bible Christian and if an archangel with a wingspread as broad as a constellation shining like the sun were to come and offer me some new truth, I'd ask him for a reference. If he could not show me where it is found in the Bible, I would bow him out and say, 'I'm awfully sorry, you don't bring any references with you'" - A.W. Tozer Many Christians are adopting the new “spirituality” and tossing out orthodoxy like an old ragged pair of jeans. Believers have settled into “progressive churches” and have lost touch with objective truth found in God's Word. Followers of Jesus Christ must submit to the absolute authority of the Bible. Jesus said, "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God'" (Matthew 4:4). What Paul referred to as a “different gospel” has been introduced into churches through music, books, false teachers and unorthodox movements. The authority of the Bible is trumped by what is deemed politically correct, thus watering down the Gospel of Jesus Christ. “Liberal...

The 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino: Not Enough Attention Focused on the Good

Posted on: Monday, February 27th, 2006 by RWNetwork Administrator

With all of the strange events surrounding the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, the scandals and the many falls of Olympic metal hopefuls, there has been little attention put on athletes who went to the games and overcame obstacles and achieved a metal. Still there are some who went to the games not necessarily coming out with a metal, but they learned something about themselves, and they enjoyed mingling with the great athletes around the world. It wasn't about winning metals to them. For example, Jeret "Speedy" Peterson came in seventh place, but nevertheless completed his signature jump in freestyle aerials (skiing) called the "Tornado", which left me sitting in front of my TV ...jaw dropped wide open, wondering if he's lost his sanity. I can't leave out the amazing aerial stunts of Shaun White aka "The Flying Tomato". Shaun won a gold metal in men's half-pipe (snowboarding). He is the type of athlete who you can tell loves the sport of snowboarding, and I'm sure he wouldn't have minded if he didn't get a medal. He just loves to fly. The U.S. can still be proud that it has sent to Torino, one of the most energetic go-getters in the U.S.'s history of the Winter Olympic Games....

Either You Are, Or You Aren't a Renaissance Woman!

A renaissance woman is someone who sets her own agenda for personal achievement and will not allow herself to be manipulated or intimidated by self-proclaimed spokesmen who try and wrap their political philosophies around terms like "equality," "choice," "peace," "tolerance" and "diversity." She understands that she has been created for such a time as this and embraces her destiny as a challenge and not a curse, no matter what her personal circumstances. She is a winner not a whiner, a leader not a follower, a victor, not a victim. She wants to change the paradigm of the feminist movement that has served to marginalize and ridicule women who do not follow their collective agenda.

Millions of women around the country, from all professions, backgrounds and cultures, are courageously picking up the mantel of leadership and virtue, that the feminist movement has squandered. They are providing thoughtful and accurate analysis, on a variety of issues, of where, and who we are as a nation.

Remember, this is not a club. It is a mindset!
