"Surely the Lord God does nothing unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets" (Amos 3:7, NKJV) On January 27, 1999, a group of prophets met together with Dr. C. Peter Wagner as the apostle in the World Prayer Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Among the words given by the group was on that particularly leaps out at us today: Satan intends to launch terrorist attacks against school children. There may be as many as ten to twelve potential school bus bombings such as have occurred in Israel that will put tremendous fear and even terror into the heart of the nation. On April 20, 1999, the heart of the United States was broken as we watched, once again, children killing children as the Columbine High tragedy unfolded. Only this time it was worse, much worse than anything we had seen in the past. Was God trying to warn us to pray more for our children, schools and cities? Is this the only alarm that was sounded? I don’t believe so. His Word tells us that He will do nothing without telling the prophets. Why does he warn of impending judgment? It could only be that in His infinitesimal love, He doesn’t want it to come. He wants His children to pray a II Chronicles 7:14 prayer and stop it. God does try to warn us before impending disaster. There were some people who gave very little credence to the Word issued through the prophets on January 27th. This is difficult to understand in light of the injunction scripture gives us to believe the prophets so you may prosper (II Chronicles 20:20). Since the April 20th shooting at Columbine High when 1 teacher and 14 students were killed and at least 23 were injured, we have pieced together several prophetic warnings given in advance of the tragedy. One of them came during a meeting on April 1, when I mete with a group of pastors from the Denver area. As I shared with the pastors, the message became very sober. In the midst of a strong Word about revival coming to the city came the admonition, "America will pay for its godlessness with the lives of its children." The Holy Spirit went on to admonish the group that they must begin 24 hour prayer watches for every city in the Denver area. I must say that I do not remember giving a more stern admonition that this cry for prayers for Denver and the surrounding cities. I do not believe that the pastors that were there that day rejected the prophetic word. However, it may be that the urgency with which it was to be heeded was not understood. We are learning more about how to cooperate and interpret what God is saying through the prophets today. God is talking to us as His children, but we don’t always know how to respond to what He is saying. Another warning came about pending disaster in the from of a dream that was given to Bruce Porter on January 20, 1999, exactly 3 months before the Columbine tragedy. Porter, the pastor of a martyred teenager, relates: "I awoke gasping for air, deep gutteral cries escaping my lips. As I tried to collect my thoughts and calm my racing heart, I began to relate to my wife Claudia what I had just seen. ’They were killing, no, slaughtering young people!’ I blurted out. ’Some of the kids were killing themselves!’ I could still see in my mind’s eye the terrified faces of young men and women, boys and girls, bloody and crying. I could yet hear the sound of gunfire, and what seemed to be muffled explosions. ’It was horrible! So real!’ as she coached me to remember, I cried and began to blurt out details of what I had just seen. I was in some sort of building. All around me were young people, and although I didn’t realize it until now, they were obviously in a school setting. Suddenly they became bloody, and began to cry, scream, and run in all directions. I saw what looked like red fire, flowing from behind them as they ran, and several fell down. I heard loud explosions, and what sounded like firecrackers. Then, the scene changed, and I saw some of these young people running in a very peculiar way. They were running in a line, holding their heads in their hands, crying, screaming, praying’ some had blood on their faces, hands and torsos’ The horror of that scene was palpable, and I felt their fear and anguish. Then, as I watched, I saw some of the young people begin to change. They yet appeared as before, but their eyes changed, and there seemed to be a look of determined certainty and confidence come over their faces. It was as if they had remembered something they had forgotten, something that took away their former terror, and replaced it with a steely-eyed focus. I watched them turn around and go back into the place they came from this time, however, these youths began to give aid to these who had fallen, some giving CPR, others binding wounds, praying and speaking things that seemed to enter in to those listening to them like a vapor of some sort. There yet remained conflict, and I could see some of the red flame, but it seemed that a battle had been engaged, and the young people were now winning. The words came to me "Rescue 911!" A third warning was given to a prayer group in Denver that my friend Susan Mendez of Channel 4 told me about. One of the members of their group had a vision of two men in black trench coats the morning of the shooting. They understood that they were evil and prayed against witchcraft. I realize that this bring up the issue of the sovereignty of God in the affairs of man. Was God warning to comfort or did He want to avert the disaster? This is a delicate matter. God is certainly using the martyrdom of the eight high school students who died and were Christians. One might ask, "Was their death God’s first plan. Or could the revival that followed have been birthed through a wave of prayer and intercession and sweeping move of the holiness throughout the nation?" The question itself is a sobering one that deserves much prayer and though. Another serious matter to ponder is whether or not the two young men might be alive today if more prayer with understanding had been raised up for their generation. Reports from across the nation filtered into the media of young people being exposed who were going to blow up their schools. Others gave themselves up to counselors and confessed that they were planning the same thing in their schools and needed help. More and more, it is becoming vitally important not to reject the legitimate words given though the prophets. Trusted leaders who are able to judge national words are gathering and being raised up for functional together. Cities need to *recognize the prophetic intercessors in their midst, so they have a way of comparing the Words they are receiving in intercession. What if a network had been in place in Denver in a way that trusted intercessors and pastors could filter and understand what God was saying to their city? Perhaps the three Words shared in this article and clarity given could have averted or lessened the disaster. I shared earlier how a group of prophets met in a by-invitation-only meeting on January 27th. A respected prophet form another area of the nation warned the leaders of Colorado Springs, that the walls of our city were down, and that in the terrorist attacks we would be among the first to be hit. A group of us took this word very seriously and began to devise a strategy to put the walls of protection over our city back up immediately. As we met, a strategy formed that the city needed a time of 40 days of 24 hour prayer. This was implemented by a coalition of churches and ministries. In addition to praise ascending day and night in homes all across the city, 12 corporate gatherings were held in the World Prayer Center, led by various worship teams form the city. Other strategies used during the 40 days included reading the Bible from 100 troubled locations in the city. This took approximately an hour and a half to accomplish. Various sites of known occult practices, as well as high schools, colleges, and military bases were visited. Stakes with scriptures placed on them were driven into the ground as prophetic acts. The city was secured for the time being, and our 40 days of praise ended with a Jesus March organized by Ken and Solveig Henderson of Soldiers for Jesus. The icing on the cake was partnering in the mandate of Isaiah 58 as Operation Blessing worked with us to feed the poor in the city. What did this actually accomplish in the heavenlies? One indication came from a surprising revelation given to me by an intercessor in Denver, Colorado. I talked to her while on stage at the Denver Coliseum, the Saturday night following the Columbine incident. This lovely lady came up to me and showed me a map of all the school shootings that have taken place in the past couple of years. What I saw was amazing indeed! They were all on two straight lines. One ended in Waco, Texas where there had been an incident of violence with a religious cult. The second line stopped in Oklahoma City where , as many of you know, a government building was bombed by terrorists. As I looked at the map, I realized that there was one city on the straight line that was missed - Colorado Springs. The intercessor from Denver looked me straight in the eye and said, "We believe that we got what was meant for you" (Columbine High School is located in Littleton, Colorado which is 59 miles from us). Could it be that the walls of praise raised by the church of Colorado Springs protected our city? I believe so. It was reported to me that a young man in Colorado Springs turned himself in to his school counselor one week after the incident. His statement, "I need help. I was going to do the same thing that happened at Columbine High." In addition to that, our son’s school was evacuated twice because of bomb threats. He may be alive today because of the gates of praise hung (built) by worshippers in the city. Chuck Pierce, the Director of the World Prayer Center, went into deep intercession for his own son’s school the morning of the shooting. It seems to me that God is trying to warn us of impending judgments. Maybe we need to learn to fine-tune our hearing. Prophetic intercessors are the ears of the Body of Christ. Perhaps we have a hearing loss because the ear is not properly aligned. Here are a few suggestions of things you can do in your city to increase your hearing levels: • Recognize and gather together the proven prophetic intercessors in the city. • Appoint a group of pastors and leaders as a "prophetic filter" to judge the Words the intercessors are receiving for the city. • If a prophetic Word seems to be giving a warning of crisis or judgment, ask the Lord how to pray over the Word. A few guidelines might be: o Is there a specific time frame given for the Word? For instance, as in the case of a natural disaster coming, when is it to take place? o Are there any conditions given in the Word? This might be that the judgment could be averted if repentance is made for a certain sin such as idolatry. Remember that all prophetic Words outside of scripture are conditional in some way or the other. God warns of impending crisis to protect His people. God has changed, and does change, His mind! "For He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness; and he relents from doing harm. Who knows if He will turn and relent, and leave a blessing behind Him - a grain offering and a drink offering for the Lord your God?" (Joel 2:13-14)
